Drum Set Buying Guide

What is a 5 Piece Drum Set?
One of the most common questions we get is "Why
does your drum set say it is a 5 Piece Set when others claim a similar looking
set is a 7 (or 8 or 9) piece set?"
Saying a drum set is a FIVE Piece Set does not mean there are literally only
5 Pieces. What it means is that the sets have 5 Drums - the bass drum, the
2 mounted toms, the floor tom and the snare drum.
When a Seller says they are selling a 7 (or 8 or 9) piece set and they only
show a 5 Piece set, this should be your first clue that they may not know
(or worse - they may know and are not being honest) what they are selling!!
Our 5 Piece Drum Sets have all 5 drums mentioned above along with the crash/ride
cymbal, the hi-hat cymbals, the cymbal and hi-hat stands, the stool, the sticks,
drum key and all else you need to play!

Is it hard to assemble a drum set?
The simple answer is "No".
In fact, is is an intuitive, even fun process, and here at drumset.com we have assembled downloadable instructions and videos to help you get on your way.
If you take a look, you will see that once you put a single drum head on a single drum, the process repeats itself on the remaining drums. So once you do one, you can do them all quickly. First time drum assembly usually takes less than an hour and easier to put together than a book shelf!
Regardless of where you have bought your set, online or at a local music store, you will have to assemble your drum set (as you can imagine) so we have done everything to make that an easy process for you. In fact, I can honestly say that in talking to hundreds of our customers (okay, maybe even thousands!) that our customers really value learning about the parts of their drum sets when they are putting them together. It really does help you to get to know the drum set.
You can see the drum video and the instructional links on our Drum Assembly page

What is the best way to learn drums?
If you ask this question to a hundred advanced drummers, you will probably
get 100 (or more!) different answers. Traditionally, the one-on-one lesson
with an experienced teacher would have been the best method to get you up
and playing with good habits. But due modern time constraints, cost of even
the difficulty of finding a quality teacher in your area, you may need to
consider other options. Lucky for the modern day aspiring drummer, there are
many more options because of the endless amount of information on the internet.
Youtube is truly and endless source of great, and not so great, drumming techniques. Read the comments, on the videos and check out the backgrounds of the person on the video and pretty soon you will be able to tell which drummers know what they are doing, and which do not. We are also working on bring to our customers one of the largest collections of videos free online videos that our experienced staff deem are the best, most informative drum videos available. So we sill do the research for you and let you get to the important part - learning to play your new drum set!
Once last important note that all of here at drumset.com agree on - no matter what you do, absolutely nothing will replace the experience, joy and rapid musical growth that you can get when you play with other musicians. You will be amazed about how your abilities will grow in leaps and bounds when you get together with others who share you passion to make great music! So get your drum set, get on the phone and get together with some other players and make it happen!
Happy drumming! - DJ

What size drum set should I buy?
The generally accepted rule on what size of a drum set to buy is that when in doubt, you should buy bigger, not smaller. Full size sets work well for older kids becuse they will not grow out of the set, but rather grow into it and because the drum kits all have adjustable tom arms and stands, it easy customize a full size set for almost anyone. We of course recommend the full size set for teens and adult exlusively. Chidlrens/junior drums fit a size need wonderfully and we strongly recommend them for younger drummers. And a snare kit is a nice and affordable option also.
Keep in mind the bass drum sizes below when buying a drum set other than the standard full size drum set, it will give you a good idea of how to visualize how large the set is.
For older kids, teens and adults, we recomment
the Full Size Drum Sets that come with
bass drums starting at 22"
For children 3 - 8, we recommend the Jr
Drum Sets that come with 16" bass drums
For smaller children ages 3 - 5 we recommend the Mini
Drum Sets that come with 12" or 16" bass drums and are a fun
way to get started
